PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RE: TCZ DEVELOPS A TEACHER MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (TMIS), TO FACILITATE EFFECTIVE TEACHER REGISTRATION

DATE: 27TH MARCH, 2025

The Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) has developed the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS), an innovative platform designed to streamline teacher registration, licensing, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) management, and facilitate teacher recruitment in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission and the Ministry of Education. TCZ Registrar, Dr. Ebby Mubanga, showcased this system at the 69th Comparative International Education Society (CIES) Conference, held from March 22nd to 26th, 2025, at Palmer House, Hilton Hotel, Chicago, USA.

Dr. Mubanga said that teacher data is critical to decision making at policy, institutional management and learning levels.

The TCZ Registrar emphasized that TMIS, a system developed to enhance Continuing Professional Development and Teacher Registration among other monitoring mechanisms would enhance teacher education.

With the support of UNESCO IICBA, the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) took part in the high-level educational conference themed “Envisioning Education in a Digital Society.” The event convened global education experts to explore key issues, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), education policy, inclusion, educational technology, curriculum development, and climate change.

At the conference, TCZ showcased its Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) and its integrated CPD platform as an innovative model for managing teacher data and a tool for teacher development and quality performance. This drew interest from other countries both African and European looking to learn from Zambia’s approach.

A key highlight was Zambia’s selection to host a five-day regional workshop in June 2025 on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as a tool for teacher development. The event will bring together education stakeholders from seven countries, including Lesotho, Malawi, South Sudan, and Zanzibar, to exchange best practices and explore solutions for enhancing CPD systems.

Zambia’s participation in CIES strengthens its position on the international education stage, fostering valuable bilateral and multilateral engagements. Such global collaborations help benchmark Zambia’s education progress and inspire continuous improvement.
