AFTRA is an intergovernmental organization comprising the Ministries of Education and National Agencies regulating<\/span>
teaching in all the Member States of the African Union. Inaugurated on October 12, 2010 in Abuja Nigeria by the Ministers<\/span>
of Education of Nigeria and South Africa, AFTRA has grown into a profound continental Federation that leads policy<\/span>
development and implementation for the professionalization of teaching in Africa. AFTRA is also a member of the<\/span>
International Forum of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (www.iftra.org) and UN International Taskforce on Teachers for<\/span>
Education 2030 (https:\/\/www.teachertaskforce.org\/).<\/span><\/p>

In pursuit of its mandates, AFTRA further functions as the African Union Co-Chair of CESA Teacher Development Cluster; <\/span>member of the CESA Curriculum Cluster; and member of the Advisory Group of the African Continental Qualification<\/span>
Framework (ACQF). AFTRA has UNESCO-IICBA and Education International Africa Regional Office as strategic partners <\/span>and collaborates with UNESCO Regional offices across Africa and other continents.<\/span><\/p>

The national laws that established the National Agencies which regulate teaching empower them to register and license<\/span>
teachers, set standards for pre-service and on-going teacher professional development, develop and implement code of<\/span>
ethics and professional standards for teachers and school leaders, and work generally to promote the professional status<\/span>
of teachers. AFTRA, therefore, is working to translate these mandates into continental frameworks, to facilitate exchange of best practices, teacher mobility, and quality teaching and learning throughout Africa for the actualization of SDG4-<\/span>
Education, CESA 16-25 and the AU Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.<\/span><\/p>

The African Union theme for 2024 – “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for<\/span>
increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” was officially launched at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The launch marks the implementation of concrete initiatives to transform education and skills<\/span>
development systems in Africa. AFTRA welcomes and endorses the AU Road Map Year of Education and is pleased to align the conference with the AU Year of Education as an AU Spotlight on Basic Education and Foundational Learning. The launch of the 2024 Spotlight report, Learning Counts, by the AU, GEM Report, and ADEA at the conference aims to enhance<\/span>
evidence-based dialogue on education transformation in Africa.<\/span><\/p>

The AFTRA Cultural Night brought together participants from various countries, both within and beyond the continent, dressed in their traditional ethnic attire. Guests enjoyed a diverse selection of cuisines, featuring both local Zambian dishes and international flavors. The event also provided a platform for different countries to showcase their traditional dances and share cultural experiences.<\/span>
